Journal Writing * Robert The Red Letter Epoch RR2, Hampton, Carter County, Tennessee, Saturday, May 4, 1912, 9 oÆclock, a.m. (signed) Ray Street (may not have been 'Street') Noah Whistenhunt was born January 1, 1817 in Randolph Country, North Carolina, and was ninety-five years old the first of this January of this year, 1912. His wife, the first was Sarah Alice, and his second wife now living Lucinda nee Roberts (born 6-10-1843). Children: Betsy, Eben, by first wife, and Matilda, Millie, Joseph, Isaac, and Wiley. This old man only had two spells of fever as to sickness. He is heavy in build, weighing near two hundred pounds, standing weight, and had no second in strength in wrestling. 'Never had my back put on the ground' he said. This old man was forced into the army of the rebellion by the old conscript law, and being in thirty-two battles, most at the time on the firing line, and sometimes out with the ambulance picking up the wounded on the battle field, and with shot like hail all about him, yet a bullet never pierced his clothes. Mr. Whistenhunt is now too feeble to walk alone, and is slightly (unreadable). He is a member at the Freewill Baptist Church, and has been for about forty years.
