He served three terms in the South Carolina state legislature: From 1897-1898 representing Union County, 1899-1900 representing Cherokee Co., and from 1911-1912 representing Cherokee Co. After his wife died, he moved to Blacksburg, South Carolina, where his siblings and his daughter Fay lived.
