Nova W. Whisenhunt Sr.

Nova Woodrow Whisenhunt Sr., 91, Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, died Friday, June 3, 2005, following an extended illness.

Mr. Whisenhunt was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Isaac and Lillie Royal Whisenhunt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Frances Whisenhunt, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Whisenhunt was a member of Eastside Freewill Baptist Church and retired from B.J. Church Construction Company as a painter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and WW II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166, Elizabethton.

Survivors include three sons, Nova "Woody" Whisenhunt Jr., Hampton, Michael Keith Whisenhunt and Ricky Paul Whisenhunt, both of Elizabethton; a daughter, Vickie Whisenhunt, Knoxville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers Carmon Whisnant, Hampton, Reno Whisenhunt, Roan Mountain, and Harry Whisnant, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service for Mr. Whisenhunt will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Howard Messer officiating. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Monday. Military Honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. The family received friends from 4 until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence of a son, Nova Whisenhunt Jr., 112 Stevens Circle, Hampton. A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff of Hermitage Health Care for their loving attention to Mr. Whisenhunt during his stay there.
