In the 1880 Hall Co., GA census, he's shown with wife Jane and two children. In the 1900 White Co., GA census, we find him with wife Clarisa R., and two children. Finally, in the 1910 White Co., GA census, we find him with wife Clarisa. Adam and Clarisa are buried at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, seven miles west of Cleveland, GA.

The book THE GEORGIANS Genealogies of Pioneer Settlers by J. H. Austin, 1984, page 382, lists a J. Chris., b.1852, m. Jane, b.1854 with what seems like the same children: John S., b. 1874; Olley, b. 1876; Alice, b.1879; M. E., dau., b. 1854; inf. son, b. 1860 (all from Hall Co., GA). The book lists this family under David Whisenant and Jane. David Whisenant is said to be the son of Robert R. Whisnant and Mary. I believe I have this family correctly listed under Joseph and Frances.

Note*John is said to be the only son of Peter (Whisenant, Wheaonout, Whisenhunt, etc.) who was born in Virginia after the Revolution. After John married, he moved to Ellijay, Georgia, where he operated a bar for a few years before returning to Franklin County, Georgia, where he farmed. The Civil War brought great hardship to John. He lost all his possessions after the war. The family was forced to move in with friends. In the 1880s John set out to make a new life for himself in Texas, where again he may have operated a bar. His granddaughters remember sitting on his lap during a long visit at his son's home in Erath County, Texas. This was shortly beforee John's death. Interesting note: The hills of Hardman Co., TX are as red as those of northeast Georgia.
Author's note: I have now been told by Tony Ray Whisenant that John Nicholas is probably a son of Peter E. Whisenant, #165, page 49, of the W.T.T.A. book.

Note*was a drummer boy for the Confederacy during the Civil War, joining just two days before his 16th. birthday. After the war, he moved to White County, Arkansas, where he was engaged in the mercantile business. Cholera taking the lives of his children forced him to Texas in 1898. There he operated a grocery store at Altman and farmed nearby. J. D. loved reading the Bible and the Dallas paper on his front porch. A deeply religious man, he was a deacon of the Baptist Church and a member of Odd Fellows. In later years, he and Mit, his second wife, moved to Carlton, Hamilton Co., Texas. John Davis Whisenant's iron hand, fairness, honesty and financial wisdom helped set a tone for a family for years to come. He died at Justin, Denton Co., Texas, where he had sought treatment for a tumor on his right temple. This tumor proved to be fatal for him.
