Publisher's Note

I want to thank those of you who have donated information for this newsletter. This second newsletter of 1994 will be my last. I feel that I would be unable to provide my subscribers with enough family information to justify continuing the newsletter.

The fact that I’m not doing the newsletter anymore doesn’t mean that my research efforts on the family have stopped. I hope those of you that have helped in my research of our family history will continue to do so in the future. So please continue to keep me posted on any new information you find. Recent deaths

The following is a list of cousins who have died since the last newsletter was published.

  • Alvie C. Whisenhunt, (Family 654iv), died in Arlington, TX, in 1993.
  • Eugene Billington Whisenhunt, (Family 1130), died 25 Oct 1993, in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX.
  • Terry Wayne “Bug” Whisenhunt, (Family unknown), died 18 Dec 1993, in NewHope, Pike Co., AR. Bug was born 25 Jan 1954, in Huntington, IN. In Bug’s obituary his parents are listed as Harvey Ray & Lillie Davis Whisenhunt, of Newhope, AR.
  • Gladys Verna Whisenant, (Family unknown), a retired practical nurse. Died, Mar 1994, at the age of 87. (Obituary from the Dallas Morning News.)

W.T.T.A. Additions & Corrections

Since the book Whisnants Through the Ages was published, I have received additional information. I do not have enough room here to include all the new information I've obtained. Therefore, in many cases only part of the information is included. The rest will be saved for some possible future publication. I suggest that you either make the corrections in your book, or keep this newsletter with the book for future reference.

I hope you will keep me informed as to any corrections/additions to the book you have. (Note: Family numbers refer to the number of the family as listed in Whisnants Through The Ages.)

Family 160i, John Nicholas Whisenant: He married Bashaba Jane Allen. I was told that John died by drowning in 1892. Their children were:

  1. Samuel Whisenant. He married Edna Hart.
  2. Amanda Maybell Whisenant. She married L. D. Holloway.
  3. Ina Amzonia Whisenant. She married, first, Clarence Chambers. She married, second, Jim Culwell.
  4. Bailey Ernest Whisenant. Born, 4 Feb 1883, in TX. Died, 28 May 1953. He married Henrietta Cayton.
  5. Lillie Whisenant. She married Thomas E. Smith.
  6. Lewis Whisenant. He was born, Jan 1888, in TX. Died, 15 Aug 1959, in Smith Co., TX. He married Cora Turney.

Family 160iv, William Christopher Kelly Whisenant: He married, first, Larissa M. Langston. He married, second, Mrs. Fannie Summers. William and Larissa had the following children:

  1. Lydia Whisenant.
  2. Henry Whisenant.
  3. Jimmie Whisenant.

Family 160ix. Sarah Catherine Whisenant: She married Elijah Currier.

Family 160x. Julia Ann Elizabeth Whisenant: She married William Jefferson Newborn.

Family 165iv. Sarah E. Whisenant: She married Jack Holmes.

Family 165v. Littleton Meeks Whisenant: He married Mary E. Jennings.

Family 165viii. Nancy A. Whisenant: She married, first, Robert Daniel. She married, second, Jim Sinclair.

Family 459. John Benjamin Whisenant: I’ve identified six children. He and Susan’s children are:

  1. William Jasper Whisenant. (William is the same person as listed on page 396, second column.)
  2. Adam Columbus Whisenant. (Adam is the same person as listed on page 367, column 1, bottom of page.)
  3. Ella Whisenant. She married J. T. Chambers.
  4. Mary Jane Whisenant.
  5. James C. Whisenant. He was born in Jan 1874, in TX. He married Zelhia Letha Knox, 13 Sep 1896. Hey had 6 children: Cleo P, Dealna, Mohota, Wayland, Lois, and James J.
  6. Washington E. Whisenant.

Family 460. William Benjamin Whisenant: He and Angeline had the following children besides Nathan:

  1. Rendy Whisenant. She married Sam Cole.
  2. Lockey William Whisenant Born, 29 Jun 1887, in Erath Co., TX. Died, 21 Mar 1976, in Burnet Co., TX. He married Dora Ann Briggs, 14 Jan 1911.
  3. Maud Elvira Whisenant. She married, first, Robert Henry Dunlap. She married, second, Walter A. Peters.

Family 464, Jefferson W. “Barto” Whisnant: For those of you interested in Barto’s family, I have genealogy information on over 450 descendants (142 families) of Barto in my computer files. (This was just to much data to list here in the newsletter.) For those of you interested in this line of the Whisnants, I can send you the genealogy report on his descendants if you let me know.

Family 654iv, Alvie C. Whisenhunt: His wife Mildred Fry Whisenhunt, lives in Arlington, TX. He also has a daughter, Linda Poindexter, who lives in Mansfield, TX.

Family 863, Millard Alonzo Whisnant: HIs wife Amy was born 2 May 1866. She died 12 Aug 1939, and is buried in Johnson Co., AR.

Family 1130i, Elizabeth Ann Whisenhunt: Her son Ian Kristan Haney, died 7 Apr 1993, in Ft. Worth, TX. He was born 20 years earlier in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a 1990 graduate of Duncanville High School, and was studying electrical engineering at DeVry.

Family 2526, Mary B. Whisnant: She died, 13 May 1992, in Longview, WA.

Family 1, page 389, Morris Vaughn Whisnant: Morris is the grandson of Isaac “U.V” Whisnant (family 464iv). Morris’ parents were Morris Larry Whisnant and Hazel Magnola Garland.

Family 13iii, page 399, William Whisenant: His full name is William Lake Whisenant, he was born 18 Dec 1901, in Smith Co., TX. He married, first, an unknown woman. They had at least one child. He married, second, Juanita Raifsnider, who was born, 4 Sep 1915, in Godly, TX. William and Juanita were divorced. William is now dead, but Juanita currently live somewhere in California. Their children are:

  1. Jackie Ray Whisenant, born 24 Jan 1937, in McLennan Co., TX. He married Edith Marie Cothron, 4 Apr 1959.
  2. Windell Earl Whisenant, born 3 Mar 1939, in Tyler, Smith Co., TX. He married Marion LeRene “Sally” Goss, 11 Oct 1964. He and Sally currently reside in Las Vegas, NV. -
  3. William Lake Whisenant Jr., born 6 Jun 1942, in Smith Co., TX. He married Roberta P. Caldron.

Page 405, Whisenant, John Davis: Change the name to Whisenant, J., and remove references to parents. I do not know who this person is. (Tony Whisenant, of Liberal, KS says this isn’t John Davis.)
