Woodrow Whisnant

LAWNDALE — Mr. Woodrow Wilson Whisnant, 94, lifelong resident of Lawndale, 3215 Oakbrook Drive, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Avante at Charlotte.

Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Bryant Whisnant and Dovie Upton Whisnant. He retired as owner and operator of Whisnant Grocery in Lawndale and served in the Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Whisnant; seven brothers, Durham, John, Joe, Horace, George, Chivas and Eston Whisnant; and two sisters, Elizabeth Shehan and Ema Whisnant.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Catherine Crowley Whisnant; son, Woodrow “Woody” Whisnant and wife, Dianne, of Shelby; daughter, Susan Pritchard and husband, Dick, of Waxhaw; five grandchildren, Kyle Pritchard, Marcus Whisnant, Lukus Whisnant, Kathryn and Tom Bernau and Shelia Whisnant; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Whisnant and Will Bernau.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Funeral: Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel

Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park
