Herbert Whisenant

Herbert Hoover Whisenant, 75, of N.C. 181 N., Morganton, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Grace Heights following a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County on Oct. 14, 1928, and was a son of the late Glenn and Beulah Whisenant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Metcalf Whisenant. Mr. Whisenant was an electrical contractor for Ransom Whisenant for 40 years before becoming a self-employed electrician. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where he was a church trustee and served on many committees.

Surviving are sons, Dennis Whisenant and his wife, Martha and Kevin Whisenant, all of Morganton; brothers, Joe Whisenant and his wife, Dorothy of Morganton and Russell Whisenant of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters and their husbands, Alice and John Perkins and Vera and Donald Ollis, all of Morganton; granddaughter, Victoria Whisenant of Morganton; his companion, Mae Meddlin of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Ralph May and Ron Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
