Mary Ann Whisenant Carter


Mary Ann Whisenant Carter went to be with her Savior on Friday, March 20, 2015.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Palo Duro Baptist Church, 5704 FM 809, Wildorado, Texas, with Dr. Ron Muller officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary Ann Carter was born on March 7, 1935, in Amarillo, Texas. She grew up in Amarillo and spent countless hours riding with Will Rogers Range Riders Club as a member of the square dance riding team. Mary Ann graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953 and then attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX.

She met William A. Carter in Amarillo, and they married on August 20, 1954. They enjoyed living in the country and recently celebrated 60 years together. Mary Ann worked for a short time as a substitute teacher with Hereford I.S.D., but dedicated most of her life to raising her three sons and being a devoted wife.

Mary Ann was active in the Deaf Smith and Oldham County Extension Education Association Clubs. She enjoyed cooking with other club members and hosting the Annual Hunters’ Feast on opening day of pheasant season.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.E. “Jack” Whisenant and Maurine Moore Whisenant.

Survivors include her husband, William A. Carter, three sons, Landon and wife Cindy of Amarillo, their children, Rob of Amarillo, and Sara of San Marcos; Clay and wife Edie of Amarillo, their children, Elizabeth and her husband Reece of Amarillo, and Coleman of Dallas; Champe and wife Erin of Fredericksburg, and their children Dane and Van of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Betty Hunter and husband, Ed of Azle and Glenda Smith, of Azle.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Sherry Ivy and Rhonda Binkley for the excellent care of our mother and to our family and friends for their prayers and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Palo Duro Baptist Church, 5704 FM 809, Wildorado, Texas, 79098 or a favorite charity.
