Frances Whisnant Stamey

Frances Whisnant Stamey, 72, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 19, 2015 with her family by her side.

Born in Burke County, NC on February 10, 1942, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest “Humdinger” Whisnant and Mary Sue Cope Whisnant. Frances had been an active member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as the church clerk. She had worked for Skyland Textiles, Knob Creek Upholstery, and Carr Furniture, and retired from Sherrill Furniture. Frances loved to sew and could make anything.

A loving wife and mother, Frances is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Bennett Stamey of the home; children, Randy Stamey, and Vickie York and her husband, Danny, all of Morganton; brothers, Bud Whisnant and Lucy, of Morganton, David Whisnant and Brenda, of Jonesville, TN, Gene Whisnant and Daphne, of Connelly Springs, NC, and Winfred Whisnant of Morganton; sisters, Lucille Allman, Gertrude Clontz and Harold, Lib Norville and Albert, and Sadie Whisnant, all of Morganton; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to illness in her later years, Frances’s husband and children along with her son-in-law devoted their lives to caring for her for the past 14 years. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Catawba County Medical Services and Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., and to Denise Willix and Faith McClean.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by three brothers, Bona, Jim, and Richard Whisnant; and a sister, Gladys Allman.

The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Thom Hartman officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
