Bernice Clark

SHELBY - Bernice Clark, 79, of 1814 Powerline Drive, transitioned peacefully to her eternal home on Dec. 10, 2013, at Hospice Wendover, Shelby. She was born May 20, 1934, in Cleveland County, to the late David Lonnie and Helen Whisnant.

She was a graduate of Compact High School and attended Johnson C. Smith University. She was previously employed by Young's Beauty Supply of Shelby for more than 12 years. Bernice was a member of New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Clark; sister, Evelyn Whisnant; and brother, Otis Whisnant.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Dawkins (Leroy) of Shelby; one granddaughter, Pamela Durrah (Charles) of Charlotte; one sister, Vader Whisnant of Gastonia; sisters-in–law, Eula Logan and Kathryn Clark of Shelby; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation: The family will receive friend 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday at New Ellis Baptist Church in Shelby
