Joseph Whisnant

MORGANTON Joseph "Joe" Whisnant, 77, of Morganton, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012. Born Sept. 28, 1935, he was the son of the late Carl Lloyd Whisnant and Susan Mabel Miller Whisnant. Joe was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He retired from the Western Youth Institute with over 20 years of service. A very family oriented man, Joe is survived by his sons, Carl Whisnant and wife, Dianne, and Barry Whisnant and Caprise Baker, all of Morganton; a daughter, Agnes Collins and Herman Mooney, of Morganton; grand-daughters, Shelly Cash and husband, Scott, Sabrina Whisnant and Rodney Toney, and Brandi Whisnant and Manuel Wishon; great-grand-children, Kristi Michael, Lynnsi Michael, Brigitte Toney and Hayden Toney; a brother, Yates Whisnant; sisters-in-law, Ellen Rose and husband, Leon, and Esther Coffey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Ann Wiseman Whisnant; a sister, Mabel Whisnant; and a grandson, Jason Whisnant. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Parker officiating. Burial followed in Burke Memorial Park. The family received friends at the funeral home for one hour, prior to the service. At other times the family gathered at the home of his granddaughter, Shelly and Scott Cash.
