Phyllis I. Dryak Whisenand

AURORA - Phyllis I. Whisenand, 71, of Aurora died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist in Giltner. Pastor Marta Wheeler will officiate. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery.

Mrs. Whisenand was born March 26, 1941, at Niobrara to Otto and Maria (Kubik) Dryak.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Corwin David Whisenand.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, William 'Bill' of Aurora; a son and daughter-in-law, Arden and Jenny Whisenand of Central City; a daughter and son-in-law, Adena and Dave Kreutz of rural Aurora; and a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Karen Dryak of Niobrara.

Additional survivors include three grandchildren, Tymothy, Dustin and Amanda Whisenand of Central City; two nephews, Marcus (Cheryl) Dryak and their two daughters, and Brian (Stacy) Dryak and their son.

She grew up in Niobrara and graduated from Niobrara High School. Phyllis went onto graduate from Wayne State College. After obtaining her degree, Phyllis taught school in Giltner and Phillips.

Phyllis was united in marriage to William 'Bill' Whisenand on Dec. 15, 1963. They lived on their farm near Giltner. Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper for Heartland Coop for over 20 years, first in Giltner and then in the Trumbull office. She went to work at Family Practice in Grand Island as a bookkeeper, before retiring in February 2012.

Phyllis was a member at Giltner United Methodist Church. She enjoyed travelling, card club, gardening and bird watching. Phyllis also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.
