DeLora L. Whisnant Lauther

Delora L. Lauther, 85, of Taylor Road died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

A graduate of Illinois State University, Mrs. Lauther taught music in public schools, was a teacher of calligraphy and was an accomplished organist.

She was a member of Psi Iota Xi sorority, Monday Club and First Presbyterian Church.

She first lived in Columbus for 19 years then moved to San Marino, Calif., Indianapolis and Pasadena, Calif. She returned in Columbus in 1991.

In 1997, Mrs. Lauther established the $1 million Edgar and Delora Lauther Endowment that benefits Foundation for Youth, Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County and Volunteers in Medicine.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church courtyard with the Revs. Ruth Billington and Evelyn Brown officiating. Inurnment will be at First Presbyterian Columbarium. There will be no calling.

Arrangements were made by Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel.

Mrs. Lauther was born in Cisco, Ill., Oct. 13, 1915, the daughter of George M. and M. Myrtle Melvin Whisnant. She married Samuel Edgar "Ed" Lauther June 22, 1941, at Cisco. He died Sept. 12, 1995.
