Rheba Whisenhunt

Rheba WHISENHUNT, 91, of Mt. Vernon died 11:15 p.m. May 11, 1997, a her
home. Mrs. WHISENHUNT was born Aug. 15, 1905, in Moores Prairie Township,
Jefferson County, a daughter of Harden L. and Mary (Mollie) JONES PETTYPOOL.
Dec. 5, 1926, in Jefferson County, she married Charlie E. WHISENHUNT, who
died June 5, 1986. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hams Grove
Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Merle FULLERTON and the Rev. Donald
WILLIAMSON officiating. Burial will be in Hams Grove Cemetery, Belle Rive.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home.

Mrs. WHISENHUNT is survived by one son, Lester WHISENHUNT and wife Mona of
Monroe, Ga.; four daughters, Mary Ellen JOHNSON and husband Charles of Mt.
Vernon, Edna DENHAM and husband Vernon of Minooka, Charlene WILLIAMSON and
husband Charles of Trenton and Sue WOLF and husband John of Bonnie; 22
grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and
two grandchildren, Maurice WHISENHUNT of Bonnie and Claudia DONI of
Columbia, S.C., who were reared in the home.

She was a member of Hams Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She taught Sunday
School at Hams Grove for many years, and she also served as clerk and
treasurer and church pianist. Mrs. WHISENHUNT was preceded in death by her
parents, husband; one son, Melvin WHISENHUNT; and her stepmother, Ella
FOWLER PETTYPOOL. For those who wish memorials may be made to the Carmi
Baptist Childrens' Home and will be accepted at the funeral home at any
time.
