Virginia Jones

Virginia Lambert Jones, of Morganton, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a period of declining health.

Born June 7, 1922 in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late William Walter Whisenant and Murtie Powell Whisenant.

Virginia was an active member of Zion Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.

She is survived by her daughter, Delores "Mickey" Hollifield and her husband, Robert, of Morganton; four grandchildren, Rusty and Anna Hollifield, Jeff Hollifield, Penny and Marty Wiseman and Robbie Hollifield and his fiancée, April Carswell; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, Charles "Dude" Lambert; her second husband, the Rev. Alvin G. Jones; an infant son; five brothers; two sisters; two half-brothers; and five half-sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Parker and Jackie Price officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be at the residence on Pea Ridge Road
