Dovie Mae Whisenant Martin

Oct. 28, 1946 - Jan. 31, 2009

Dovie Mae Martin, 62, of New Hope, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday.

She was a loving wife, wonderful and caring mother, terrific grandmother, and a magnificent great grandmother. Momma, Maw-Maw, Nana, and GiGi were her names. Cooking, fishing, shopping, and spoiling the grandkids were her games.

She was preceded in death by father, Arlen Whisenant, and mother, Tella Virginia Whisenant.

Survivors include husband, James Martin of New Hope; daughter, Rhonda Walls and husband Walton of Big Cove; daughter, Lisa Smallwood and husband David of Owens Cross Roads; daughter, Sheila Knott of Big Cove; brother, R.C. Whisenant of Foley; brother, James Whisenant and wife Teresa of Grant; brother, Roger Whisenant of New Hope; sister, Perline Payne of Huntsville; sister, Rachel Manley and husband Dean of New Hope; sister, Alice Faye Putnam and husband Earby of Arab; sister, Phyllis Lewis and husband Hogg; sister, Gertrude Connally and husband Buddy of Hollywood; grandchildren, Leslie Yarbrough and husband Dusty, Ashley Smallwood, Carissa Knott, Alaina Knott, Kaitlyn Walls, and Rebecca Walls; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Yarbrough; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Opal Martin, who was like a sister and took care of her in her time of need, and all of Dovie's neighbors and friends for their love and support.

Interment in Brown Cemetery.
