Gaydelle Whisonant Johnson

Gay Johnson, 69, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at North East Medical Center in Gainesville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Nipper officiating. Burial will be in Memory Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Martinsville, Va., lived in Milledgeville most of her life before moving to Mt. Airy. She was the daughter of the late Jeanette and Garland Whisonant of Opp, Ala. She was a graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, where she received her nursing degree. She was a retired registered nurse who had worked at Baldwin County Hospital as one of the first operating room nurse. She also worked 16 years at Central State Hospital as supervisor of nursing at the veterans unit. She also worked briefly at a nursing home in Cornelia before retiring.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Johnson of Mt. Airy, who was formerly employed with Century Bank & Trust in Milledgeville; two sons, Kim M. Johnson and his wife, Linda, of Milledgeville and Mark W. Johnson and his wife, Melinda, Of Hephzibah; a daughter, Joy L. Brookshire and her husband, Randy of Demorest; five brothers, Ned Whisonant, David Whisonant and Taylor Whisonant, all of Opp, Ala., Jack Whisonant of Montgomery, Ala., and Baxter Whisonant of Polk City, Fla.; a sister, Garlene Brown of Opp, Ala.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and Michael Johnson, Miranda Brookshire and Morgan Brookshire, Ryan Siddall and Josh Siddall.
