Ida Lee Whisnante Hollis

Ida Lee Whisnante Hollis, 90, of Rutledge, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Walton Medical Center, where she had been a resident for over four years. Her husband, Boyce M. Hollis, and five brothers and sisters of which she was the oldest, preceded her in death.

Boyce and Ida were long time residents of Rutledge, where he built houses and she loving cared for her home and seven children. She was always busy gardening, canning, cooking and sewing for her family. Her special hobbies were quilting and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren are proud to have some of her handiwork. She was a member of Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church. For many years she fed many preachers with her cooking. In their retirement years, Boyce and Ida spent many enjoyable hours gardening in their beautiful yard making it a showplace in Rutledge.

Mrs. Hollis is survived by seven children, Morgan and Martha Hollis of Social Circle, Charlotte Wood of Rutledge, Michael and Nellie Hollis of Greensboro, Gregory Hollis of Rutledge, Peggy and David Moss of Newborn, Pam and Bill Pace of Forsyth and Selwyn Hollis of Savannah; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church with interment at the church cemetery.
