Hazel Whisnant

SILER CITY, N.C. – Hazel Marie Whisnant, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Avery and Martha Williams (Edwards), went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.

Mrs. Whisnant, at the time of her death, belonged to First United Methodist Church longer than any current living member. Having joined in 1923, she was an 85-year member. She was a member of the Mary Beth Circle and Friendship Sunday school class. Mrs. Whisnant was a outdoor person and loved to fish. She was an avid golfer in her active years and she was a past women's club champion at Siler City Country Club. She had worked at Williams and Brower Furniture Co. in her younger days.

Mrs. Whisnant is survived by her son, Dr. William Howard Whisnant and his wife Billie; granddaughter, Kelly Anne Frye and husband Randy; great-grandchildren, Aaron Kendall Frye and Hannah Ruth Frye, all of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; grandson, Matthew Brent Whisnant and wife Jill; great-grandson, Carson Ray Whisnant, all of Charleston, S.C.; eight nieces; one nephew; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family wishes to give special thanks to dear, longstanding caregivers, Hazel Marsh and Elnora Siler.

Services are at First United Methodist Church, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at 11 a.m., with a private family graveside ceremony to follow.
