BRUNSWICK, Md. - Retired U.S. Navy Petty Officer Robert Alonzo Whisonant, 71, of 206 Wintergreen Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at his home.

Born May 7, 1933, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Carlton W. and Janie Boozer Whisonant.

He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Anne Whisonant; two daughters, Jelene Lee of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Faith Whisonant of Bowie, Md.; one son, Carlton Whisonant of Upper Marlboro; two stepdaughters, Linda Ricketts and Lisa Gritton, both of Frederick, Md.; three stepsons, Larry Ricketts of Gaithersburg, Md., Marvin Ricketts of Reisterstown, Md., and Ronald Ricketts of Germantown, Md.; one brother, Bernard Whisonant of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one stepson, Allen Ricketts.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Petersville, Md. The Rev. Clifton Sparrow will officiate. Burial will be in Garrison Forrest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, Md.
