Lori L. Whisenant

GRANITE FALLS - Mrs. Lori Lane Whisenant, 43, known for her beautiful smile, went home to be with the Lord and Savior after a long battle with ALS on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. She was born Sept. 20, 1966, in Richland County, S.C., to the late Arman Watt "AW" Lane Jr. and Henrietta "Hank" Virginia Wolfschlag Lane. Lori's illness was "ALS," better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. She was a fighter and refused to quit or give in to the disease. After almost a five-year battle with it and only after starting up a local ALS support group for not only folks with ALS but help to create one for the caregivers, she lost her own battle but won the Victory Promise through Christ our Lord. Lori was a graduate of Gardner-Webb University, where she finished magna cum laude. She took a job as a N.C. Probation and Parole officer, where she served 19 years until the disability from ALS. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Granite Falls. She is survived by her loving husband of eight years, Wayne Edward Whisenant of the home; children, Benjamin Lawson Whisenant and wife, Alisha, of Granite Falls and Brooke Lea Whisenant of the home; two brothers, A.W. "Tracy" Lane III and wife, Janet, of Huntersville and Eric Lane and fiancee, Reba Reid, of Granite Falls. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, Granite Falls. The funeral service for Lori will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Tom Hunter, Dennis Spivey and Dr. Marion Poythress officiating. Burial will follow in Dudley Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the "Good Ole Girls" who are the Law Enforcement Professional Women.
