Lester Whisenhunt

A special memorial service for Lester Whisenhunt, 88, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church, the Rev. Bob Kurtz and Chaplain Henry Hobson officiating. Because the body was donated to University of Alabama at Birmingham no visitation was planned. He died Thursday, June 7, at his residence. He was born Oct. 1, 1912 and was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the late Betty Campbell. He left his native Alabama for California where he worked from age 13 to 65 as a meat-cutter. Upon his retirement, he returned to the Cullman area and settled in Fairview where he began to work as a cook. Later he turned to landscaping. He was active in the planning and planting of the shrubbery and flowers around St. John's church. He was a part of the church's Buildings and Grounds activities. He is survived by his daughters, Annette Whipple of Ventura, Calif., Janet Mohrman of Los Angeles and Misty House and Pam Jarrett, both of Cullman; three sisters, Inez Hamby and Tressie Evert, both of Cullman, and Myrtle Bittner of North Olmsted, Ohio; two grandchildren, Alicia Danucci of Los Angeles and Ryan Mohrman of San Diego; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Malia, who was born Monday, June 11.
