Jean B. Whisnant

VALDESE - Jean Burnette Whisnant, 66, of Zion Road, Morganton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Whisnant was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Burke County to the late Norman Burnette and Ruby Whisnant Burnette. She was formerly employed at College Pines Nursing Center as a CNA, and was a member of East Valdese Baptist Church. Jean will always be remembered as a loving wife and a very special and dedicated mother, grandmother and sister. Survivors include her husband, William Whisnant of the home; three children, Tony Whisnant and wife, Helen, of Hildebran, Jeff Whisnant of Morganton and Rocky Whisnant and wife, Diane, of Morganton; grandchildren, Stedman Whisnant, Luke Whisnant, Devan Lane, Haylea Workman, Angel Whisnant and Trent Nichols; a special sister, Joyce Orders of Morganton; and two brothers, Johnny Burnette and Mike Burnette, both of Morganton; and a special friend, Carla McKinney of Chesterfield. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Whisnant. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today, Sunday, at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be the Rev. Terry Jordan.
