Jani S. Whisnant

Jani Starr Whisnant, 55, 158 Spring St., Apt. 12, Hampton, went home after the Lord sent an angel for her on Saturday, October 30, 2004, following an extended illness, after a successful kidney transplant, from an apparent heart attack.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William V. Whisnant, Sr., and the late Ruby Johnson Whisnant. She attended New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church and was employed in healthcare services.

Survivors include a sister, Sue Calhoun, Hampton; brother, Bill Whisnant, Jr., Dennis Cove Community; two nieces, Hope Nichols, Elizabethton, and Destiny Whisnant, Roan Mountain; two nephews, Doug Calhoun and Chad Whisnant, both of Hampton; two great nephews, Jacob Calhoun and Jonah Calhoun, both of Hampton; and a very special dear friend, Leroy Johnson, Hampton.

The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2004 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Marvin Slagle officiating. The graveside service and burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bill Whisnant, Jr., Doug Calhoun, Chad Whisnant, Wayne Johnson, J.D Calhoun, and others selected from friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Johnson, William Roberts, Harry Whisnant, Reno Whisenhunt, Carmen Whisnant, and Nova Whisenhunt.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 1, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel, or at the home of the sister, Sue Calhoun, 158 Spring Street, Apt 11, Hampton, at any time.
