Ray Moore Whisenhunt, A Resident of Slidell, La., was Born On July 11, 1931 To Wilma Mae Moore Whisenhunt and Bishop Garland Whisenhunt in Lamesa, Texas. He departed earth On December 13, 2002.

Ray Graduated From Bonham High School. He graduated from Texas A & M as an Aeronautical Engineer in 1958 after serving in the Navy with Va 115 during the Korean War. After working on the B-58, 8-57 and 8-52 Bomber at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, Texas He entered the Chrysler Space Division at Michoud, New Orleans, La. and worked on the development of the Saturn-Apollo rocket as well as the American/Russian Apollo-Soyuz Mission. He also worked on the development of the Ses100b S urface Effect Ship at Bell Aerospace. Ray was with Rockwell at Stennis, Miss. testing the space shuttle main engine and with Martin Marietta working on the external tank for the shuttle. He began working for the Governments' Defense Logistics Agency in 1974 and became Engineering Chief for the Dept. Of Defense and the Defense Logistics Agency at both Michoud And Stennis overseeing a11 aspects of Space Shuttle external tank and Space Shuttle Main Engine before he retired in 1991. He received a "Distinguished Career Award" for his service.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Whipple Whisenhunt; His son Michael Ray Whisenhunt Of Hammond, La; His dister, Dafene Burns of Ft. Worth, Texas and two grandsons; John Michael Forbes Whisenhunt And Mark Allen Whisenhunt, both of Hammond, La. His aunts; Mattie Henry of Abilene, Tex. Francis Meeks of Lamesa, Texas And Jo Moore of Brenham, Tx., and nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his son, David Alan Whisenhunt. Instead of services Ray requested that his friends, "if they choose" spend a few moments recalling a happy time spent with him. He also built a great tree house!
