Milit-Beg*John Frederick Whisnant began military service on 16 September 1940 in NC U.S. Army enlistment. Served from November 1942 until July 1945 in the European Theater of War. He participated in the Tunisian, Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley campaigns. On December 3, 1970 Col. William R. Kugler, commanding officer of 8th Logistical Command in Leghorn, Italy, honored John with a certificate of appreciation for 30 years federal civilian service.
