Census Data

YearLocationNotes concerning census
1850Monroe Co., ALage 22, living with his parents
1860Prairie Bluff, Wilcox Co., ALage 31, overseer, real estate value $2500., personal property value $3270.
1870Dennards Bluff, Monroe Co., ALage 40, farmer, R$900, P$150. His sister Elizabeth, lives in the household, along with his three children. Two other Whisenhunts live in the household which I have not been able to identify, they are: M. M. Whisenhunt, age 47, female, born AL, and H. K. Whisenhunt, age 30, female, born AL. Henry was supposed to have married Margaret Maria Thompson in 1868. Could "M. M. Whisenhunt" be Margaret? According to my records Margaret would have been around 30 years old in 1870. If my information is correct, M. M. Whisenhunt would have been to old to be Margaret.
1880McKinley, Monroe Co., ALage 50, md., farmer
Name Variation As of 1 June 1870, Henry Levi Whisenhant was also known as Whisenhunt.5
Note*He was a farmer, ginner, and a small store owner. It is said that during the Civil War he was a Captain in Bob Tait's Company, and was made a home guard. He was appointed Justice of the Piece in 1892, by the governor of Alabama. In 1896, he was appointed a notary public and ex-officio Justice of the Peace by the governor. It appears that his descendants changed their last name to 'Whisenhant'.

Note: The followiing story was obtained from rootsweb.com, Contact: WGriffin (griway@comcast.net. I have not verified any of this story:
On page 95 of the Monroe Journal Supplement to the Centennial Edition May 1, 1969 there is a story about Henry Levi Whisenhant. In this story it states that "Henry Levi Whisenhant was the third son of William Alexander Whisenhant and Catherine Stabler." And that, "The Whisenhants are of German descent..... and settled in Jamestown, Va." That "William Whisenhant, who was marrried to Elizabeth Schmidt, was the emigrant ancestor and it is written in the family Bible that he (William) was killed in the battle of Bunker Hill serving with the American Colonies. His wife, Elizabeth Schmidt, was also a German. They were the parents of four sons; WILLIAM ALEXANDER, Phillip, Adam and George."

NoteHe There is a Oredilla F. Whisenhant, b. 12 Feb 1827, d. unknown, burried at Tait Cem., Wilcox Co., AL. A note at findagrave.com says she was "wife of H. L. Whisenhant". I don't know if this was taken from the tombstone.
