Note*Adam Bailey Whisenhunt and John B. Whisenhunt Census record of 1850 not found for Bailey. He is not listed with the family in the 1850 census. Makes me wonder if he might be John B. Whisenhunt, son of Adam's brother Noah. Noah has a son "John B." who is present in the 1850 census, is of the correct age, and is missing from any census reports after 1860. on 1 June 1850.
Name Variation Adam Bailey Whisenhunt was also known as Benjamin.
NoteHe He enlisted as a Private in Co. K, 24th. AR Inf. His wife, Mary applied for his Civil War pension on 25 Aug 1902.
Note*He Information from Janice Gimlin, in an email on 02 Apr 2014 is a follows:
"Peter B. Whisenhunt b. 1842 in GA. This is Bailey Whisenhunt who married Mary Francis Rodgers. He died in TX in 1902. The is the legitimate son of Peter Whisenhunt and Mary Polly Bell."

She further stated in a letter on 03 Apr 2014 the following:

"Peter B Whisenhunt b 1842 fits right in with the rest of Peter & Mary Whisenhunt's children. My great aunt, Lucy Whisenhunt Poe was alive in the 1960s and I talked to her many times regarding the Whisenhunts. Bailey was her grandfather. She stated in a letter to me that Bailey's father was Peter Whisenhunt. For years I accepted the online info saying Bailey was Ples Adam's son, but I know this isn't true. Anyway, I understand you not wanting to change any info without proof. But, what proof do you have that he is an illegitimate son? I firmly believe he is the son of Peter and Mary Bell Whisenhunt".

Note: I leave this to future generations to decide what's correct. in April 2014.

  2. [S416] Buck Wolfenbarger, "Buck Wolfenbarger note," e-mail to Raymond C. Whisnant, 29 Jun 2004, I don't believe that this Bailey was Ples Adam's son, but may have been an Indian that worked for him. It has been passed on in our family "Wolfenbarger" that Margaret Whisenhunt was 3/4 Cherokee Indian. I have seen that there is a lot of Indian blood in the Whisenhunt family and that much of that probably came in with the "Bell" family. However, it is usually not more than 1/4 Cherokee. I believe this may be true because Bailey is never found on a census anywhere until 1870 and could have been given the name "Whisenhunt" to protect him from being removed to Oklahoma at that time.
